Are you a faux floral fan or think fake is forgettable? For better or worse, I’m team faux. Maybe it’s because I have short arms and deep pockets (that means cheap in Texas talk) or I’m two sandwiches short of a picnic (which means crazy). Either way, I like fake flowers. One thing I do to make them look a little nicer is to use these 5 loveable vintage elements that make charming flower vessels.
5 Loveable Vintage Elements That Make Charming Flower Vessels
If you ever come across an old hardware apron, snatch it up quick. They are hard to find but full of potential. You could sew it on a pillow to show it off like this one from Rocky Hedge Farm.

Or use it to help organize your craft supplies like Michelle did at the Iron & Twine blog.

A vintage hardware apron holds flowers with whimsy.
But I like to use them for flowers. If you use the real deal, just place a baggie full of water inside one of the pockets to help keep the flowers alive.
Can’t beat the ease of using an old wooden crate.
Using an old crate elevates them too. With these faux hydrangeas, I only needed add floral foam to the bottom to keep them upright and secure.
Any kind of vintage pitcher is beautiful with a bouquet of flowers. Even the inexpensive Baby’s Breath from the grocery store. And when it’s white with white… love it!
All vintage pitchers, big or small can become quite a show piece when you add flowers.
Want to use an antique pitcher that’s discolored or cracked? It’s okay! The flowers actually highlight the pitcher. Especially when the flowers are similar in color. If you decide to use fresh flowers, add a jar or drinking glass inside to preserve the pitcher. And never put them in the dishwasher. If you want to clean them, try using denture cleaner. It’s crazy good how well it works!
I can’t help but mention using a collection of vintage bottles. They are probably my favorite vessel for flowers. Clear ones, blue ones, amber ones, green ones – they are all lovely.
We can’t forget antique bottles!
I love seeing water inside. It seems so refreshing. And the glow from sunlight or a candle creates fabulous ambiance.
The last of the 5 loveable vintage elements that make charming flower vessels are baskets. Since they come in all colors, materials, sizes and shapes, they make flowers seem extra special. A little more homey or thought out.
With long baskets like the one above, stuffing the bottom with plastic bags, paper bags, tissue, etc. help keep short stems up at the top. If you want to use real flowers, I would rubber band a baggie of water to the bottom of the stems. Using a glass jar might put to much weight on the basket handle so keep that in the back of your mind as you decide to use fresh flowers.

Thank you Michelle. I am always on the look out for more baskets but seem to either forget or not find any because my collection is slim pickins! Have a great weekend.
Guess I haven’t thought enough about what to put flowers in and you have named them all. Now you’ll have me thinking about something clever to use, lol!!! It’s been rainy and cloudy forever here so I needed this.

Oh man, I know! The gloom is such a downer for me. Can you imagine living in a place like Seattle or England? I would hate it. Thankfully, the sun will shine again soon! Using something a little more special to show off your flowers makes them more special. Try it, you’ll like it! ๐ Thanks Marlene.
There are so many fun ideas in this post! I love the tool apron holding the flowers; so sweet, Cindy.
