I had a friend ask me this weekend where to find a cheap farmhouse sofa.  This got me to thinking – You too might want to know, so here are 5 farmhouse style sofas that don’t cost a bundle.

But first, lots of people call things “farmhouse style” but they really aren’t.  Like me, you can mix styles to fit your needs and get a farmhouse look like in this post or even this post.

I have friends that actually live in a hard day everyday working farmhouse and wouldn’t put a white or light colored sofa inside for any reason.

You’ll need to decide for yourself what you want your farmhouse style to be.  There’s actually several variations within farmhouse style.  Like country, french country, modern, prairie, classic, cottage and even rustic farmhouse style.   Did you know that?

So, I’m going to provide you with 5 sofa choices that will look nice in any of those farmhouse styles and you won’t have to sacrifice a pet to get it.

My go to first choice is always the IKEA Ektorp white slip covered sofa.  I think for the price it’s a great way to ease into having white furniture with kids and pets at the same time.  I have these at the old house in Navasota and it’s still in fabulous condition even after washing the slip covers many many times and them being years old.

This one  seems so plump and comfy.  It comes in a linen fabric too in case you want the farmhouse look without the worry of white.  I think it’s beautiful and a skirt is always a farmhouse look.  Like ruffles on a dining cushion – typical in farmhouse style.

This gray one on Overstock is a bit different than the others but would look so cute in a farmhouse setting. I like the wooden trim on the arms and the simple tufting on the back pillows.  And this is another non-white choice. ๐Ÿ˜‰

This one from Pier 1 is so soft and has an easily cleanable slip cover also.  I actually have this one in our family room in the Highland Village house.  I’ve washed the slip cover twice now and it is still super soft and looks great – brand new great.  I wouldn’t usually recommend a sofa from Pier 1 but they’ve amped up the quality a bit and made the furniture larger.  I used to think most of the furniture was apartment size.  Anyway, hop over and sit on one in the store.  You’ll be surprised too.

There you go, 5 Farmhouse style sofas that don’t cost a bundle.  And something you should notice when wanting to purchase a farmhouse style sofa:

  • They are typically white or light in color.  Even cream, light gray, soft blue or green work.
  • They are made of soft durable fabrics like cotton, twill, linen, hemp and canvas, to name a few.
  • They are also not stuffed so full that you don’t sink down a bit.  You want cushiness and comfort.
  • The style is simple.  Nothing over the top, overly formal or fussy.

I believe any of these sofas would look great in a farmhouse style family room.

Hope this helps!  If you have any more questions, let me know – I’m full of opinions! ๐Ÿ˜‰

These are some great sofa’s. I have the Ikea chairs like the sofa you showed. They are really comfy and the price was so great. I can wash the covers and they come out softer with each wash. All great ideas. Have a great week.

Fellow IKEA fan like me I see. I don’t think there’s a sofa out there that beats the Ektorp in dollar value. Thanks for popping over today! ๐Ÿ˜‰

You should check out the IKEA Farlov sofa too. I didn’t put it on the post because it doesn’t get great reviews. I love our Ektorp though. Is this going in your new flower studio?!?! Thanks for popping over! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love my ivory slipcovered sofa – I got it at Ethan Allen and it’s so perfect, timeless, classic, and can be dressed up with pillows/throws that can be changed with the seasons. Plus it’s washable which is a huge plus with three dogs!

I totally agree. We have three dogs too and love the slip covers!

These sofas are all lovely, but as someone with a thirteen acre farm, two farm dogs, a winter cat (he has spent his summers in the forest for several years but reappears at first snow), we just couldn’t have a white sofa. We have used a tan slipcover for years and while it’s washable, it has still stained, and I can’t stand the constant shifting and re-tucking needed to keep it neat. At least at this time we don’t have any farm animals hopping on it. Some of the Modern French Country blogs just crack me up. Our family has an old friend who has spent most of her adult life living in the French countryside, and believe me, you’d be hard pressed to find a French country home with white furniture and crystal chandeliers. I still remember when she first moved there, she asked my brother to bring her a toilet seat from America because no one had them there and there was nowhere to buy one either.

Oh my word Josephine, I’m dying over the toilet seat! One of these days I’ll get to visit the French countryside and will remember and laugh at this comment. I have seen lots of authentic french country pictures on Pinterest and am like you… not seeing any crystal chandeliers. LOL. As for the sofas, we have three dogs too and the land at the farmhouse is pure sand. It’s everywhere but the white slip covers are fabulous on our IKEA sofa. They stay in place and are seriously so easy to keep. But I totally get what you are saying. Sometimes, it’s better to get a dark sofa and be done with it. Thanks for the good laugh today. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Great selections. I’m so glad that I have a neutral sofa that works with all styles. Your sofa is darling.

I learned late in life that a neutral sofa was the way to go. Wish it had been sooner. ๐Ÿ™„ Thanks for the sweet compliment. โค๏ธ
