You might not be ready to decorate for fall but in case you need to purchase anything or need some simple ideas, I’m here for you. This is a repost of a hop hosted by Amber at Follow The Yellow Brick Home. We shared ways we transition from late summer to early fall in our decor. I started with 3 simple and pretty lantern decor looks for transitioning to fall.
3 Simple and Pretty Lantern Decor Looks For Transitioning To Fall!

When I think about transitioning into fall, I’m not looking at pillows, throw blankets or sweaters. I concentrate on color. If you use the softer yellow colors like cornmeal, butter, honey, and butterscotch, (hungry yet?), you can easily convert to fall without being all in. Colors like moss, olive, sage, or pickle green work well as do hues of brown like wheat, caramel, peanut, amber and ecru.
Reference any of those shades and your thoughts easily turn into dreams of changing leaves, cooler days and campfires.
White Beaded Lantern with simple summer look
When transitioning from late summer to early fall, I start off small. For instance, the lantern above had a greenery ball sitting in a vintage silver creamer all season. Here are ways to easily change that one lantern into three different looks.
Simple Transition Decor Look #1
Sunflowers are a wonderful late summer flower that look great in fall decor. One small stem propped with soft gold and green books makes a perfect late summer vignette. I like how the autumn colors stand out from the white lantern.
Easy Transition Look #2
If your lantern is large enough, treat it like a basket or tray. Use colors that represent what it looks like outside in your area during the early fall days and keep the amount of items in your grouping to an odd number. It doesn’t matter if an accessory pokes out of the top. It’s more dramatic that way. π Just move things around and play with it until you are satisfied. If you get frustrated, replace one or two pieces and try again.
Pretty Transition Look #3
An amber glass collection is great for transitioning from summer to fall. Especially if you add a sunflower. I have five items here but three by themselves would be fine. Just make sure the proportion is correct. You wouldn’t want whatever is inside the lantern to look dinky. I love that word – dinky. π Make sure your pieces stand at different heights too. That’s why I laid one small vase down on its side. It looked weird standing next to the other one at the same height.
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!
Bonus Simple Transition Look
I have a bonus look for you. It can’t get much easier than three little bottles with three little hydrangea stems. I think this is my favorite of all the simple and pretty lantern decor looks for transitioning to fall. Do you have a favorite? What are your go-to colors for late summer decorating? Have you ever changed your decor to a late summer look or just left it alone until fall rolled around?
HI Cindy,
I love that lantern. Pinned the books! Happy Friday!

I like it too Laura. Thanks for the pin!
Such a great idea to concentrate on color when transitioning from Summer to Fall, Cindy! It won’t feel like Fall in Florida until probably December π so it can definitely be tricky when the temps make you want to go to the beach but the calendar makes you want to cozy up with a PSL. Love these beautiful lantern ideas! They’re fantastic. Hugs, CoCo
Author
Thanks CoCo. Okay, I’m clueless. What is a PSL? Petition for Securing Ladies? Party for Socialism and Liberalism? The Pittsburg Soccer League? Oh wait. Is it a Pumpkin Spice Latte?!
Sharing on the weekend edit! Love it Cindy.

Awe, thanks so much! I love hearing that. π
Cindy, your fall lanterns are so pretty that it is hard to choose a favorite! I am loving how you used the vintage books! Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction
Author
Much appreciated Cecilia. I will probably change them up each month anyway so I get to have them all. Yay for me!
I adore this lantern and each vigneette is prettier than the first. Tons of inspiration to copy.

That makes my day Marty, thanks so much.
LOVE those sunflower ideas, Cindy! I agree with you, color is the first thing that I think of. It’s kind of hardwired in my brain and sets the stage for any season. I read where you said you weren’t crazy about orange. I love it for awhile then all the sudden I’m over it. A little goes a long way with me. Have a great weekend, friend!
Author
Yep, orange and red are hard to love for me. I used to hate gold too but once we finally got rid of the gold walls in the house, I’m liking it again. Must be that when you don’t have a choice it’s yucky but when you do, you see things in a new light? Hmmm. Thank you Debra.
Cindy, what clever ideas to make a simple lantern a focal point for all seasons. Living in Phoenix, it is very difficult to decorate for fall just yet. I generally wait until September, but even then the temperatures are still quite high. Thanks for the inspiration!

I agree Mary. It’s hard to decorate for fall when it’s so hot. I’ll be wearing flip flops until November! Would probably go passed that if I got another pedicure. LOL! Glad you found something inspiring. Stay cool!
Thanks for these pretty way to get ready for Fall, now if only the weather would start cooling, lol!

Exactly Marlene. It’s hard to get the fall feels but my plug-ins are helping. π
I love using vintage lanterns in my decor too! I will definitely be taking inspiration from this to put in my home!!

Lucky for me I get to change them out every couple of weeks and use them all! π Thank you Julie.
Well, aside from all the ways you have styled it I love your lantern! One of the prettiest ones I have seen. And of course you just gave it an upgrade, several times!

That white beaded lantern, so dreamy! Also, most of the fall colors truly are delicious. LOL
Author
That lantern is perfect for so many things. Like keeping the weird stuff on the breakfast table corralled. π Thank you Laura.
Well to start that’s a super cute lantern! Love the books and that little bit of green is perfect for transitioning into fall. Of course the amber glass is so pretty and getting more popular. Something else to thrift for LOL! Pinning!
Author
Thank you Michelle. I love the lantern. I go back and forth on the amber glass. Thrifting would be a good way to find more. All of the pieces I have are from Hobby Lobby and at 40% off, a lot less expensive than the vintage kind. I have a hard time spending so much on something I don’t absolutely go gaga for anyway. Happy almost fall!
Love your lantern ideas and the colors you suggest using to transition to fall. Beautiful!
Author
Awe, thank you Leslie. I enjoy that lantern a lot.
