I love greenery. Actually, I’d be a crazy plant lady if I didn’t have stubborn brown thumbs. And over the years, I’ve purchased a lot of plants with a total of 3 still being alive. I’m not going to say they look healthy. Barely hanging on is more like it. As far as topiaries go, I’ve purchased several of those too. Real ones, fake ones, and have even made my own. Those (my fake ones) are fantabulous and here are 3 reasons to love a beautiful topiary.
3 Reasons to Love a Beautiful Topiary!
If you aren’t sure what a topiary is exactly, it’s the art or practice of clipping shrubs or trees into ornamental shapes. In my case, it’s the art of letting someone else do it and I just appropriately collect them.

You can’t go wrong with a topiary. They come in all sizes and shapes, and depending on the type, they’ll work with any decor style.
I remember way back in the 90’s when metal containers or baskets full of faux greenery were a thing. People could cram a truckload full above their kitchen cabinets or on top of their TV stands and mantels and no one would ever say a word. Not even about the layers of dust weighing down the leaves.
Tone on Tone
I admit it; I was one of those people. My home looked like a jungle. But I loved it! Just like when my burgundy, navy and forest green plaid sofa matched the floral chairs, the blue entertainment unit, and the green and glass dining table with the matching cushions. We were newlyweds and boy did I have it going on. And don’t even get me started on the coordinating comforter and floral wallpaper in our bedroom!

I had a topiary on the dresser, on each end of the mantel, and in a couple of windows. I know, it sounds ridiculous. My point being, I loved topiaries. Still do and here’s why.

Reason #1 – Topiaries are timeless.
When things go trendy and everyone is telling us to buy this and that, the topiary will still be there to make us smile. I don’t know if it’s because they take our thoughts to an English manor, remembering the adorable centerpiece at lunch with friends or take our minds into a greenhouse and imagine ourselves in an apron and hat clipping away at their straggly vines. Whatever it is, I’m all in.
The Crowned Goat
Reason #2 – Topiaries come in so many shapes and sizes.
If you like a transitional style, a farmhouse style or even a modern decor style, there’s a topiary for you. It’s more about the container and shape than anything else. For a farmhouse style, put your topiary in a basket, brown paper bag or anything repurposed and it’s adorable. A wreath or bunny topiary inside a chinoiserie bowl is a lovely traditional style. If you prefer modern decor, envision a boxwood ball inside a square concrete planter. Perfectly contemporary.
French Country Cottage
Topiaries don’t have to be small either. Picture a 6 foot shrub or bush shaped perfectly as they flank a front door. Awesome! And the tiny ones are quite fetching grouped together or just one sitting alone under a cloche.
Celebrated Nest
Reason #3 – Real or faux topiaries look pretty.
The real ones are favorites because they make me feel authentically “planty”. Like I have green thumbs and butterflies following me around town.

The faux plants always look great, are obviously easy to take care of and the shapes are basically endless. I made some several years ago and still use them all year round. They make great fillers and the floppy ones seem casual and carefree. You can click here for that super easy tutorial.

I hope you see my 3 reasons to love a beautiful topiary as a reason to create or purchase one, two or several for yourself. My plan is to make a couple of itty bitties so I can stuff them in small places for an extra cuteness factor. Who doesn’t need that?! And remember, if it’s something you love, it’s part of being your own niche! ๐
I love topiaries Cindy and loved your post. You are spot on. And some of those images are swoon worthy. Thanks for all the inspiration. XO- MaryJo

So true with the one and done. I purchased a couple of boxwood wreaths and the spritzing got annoying. Have a great day Rachel.
Since I just created a DIY topiary for our kitchen, I’m back in topiary mood, too. Thanks for sharing all these lovely examples of a timeless accessory.

Topiary mood is one of the best kinds of moods! When I looked up how long ago it was that I made one of the topiaries in the dining room I couldn’t believe it was 2018. I still love it and am planning to make some more soon. Can you ever have to many? ๐ Thanks Carol.
Love all these ideas on topiary’s so cute. I need to make one myself and you reminded me of what I already have to do it with. Seem like sometimes I have more to do than I have energy or sense, lol!! Thanks and pinned.

LOL Marlene. I can relate on the lack of energy and sense. If I actually did all the projects from the supplies in my closet I could have a new craft done each month for a year! Just typing that makes me say yuck. I’m not a crafter. I think most of the things in there someone else talked me in to doing. :/
I just re-read your post on topiaries and they are so gorgeous and professional, Cindy. You did a great job. This is a perfect time of year for topiaries, because we still don’t have any green shooting up. Totally brown and dead looking, so topiaries are a good in between floral. Thanks for all the inspiration!!

That is so sweet of you to say! Thank you Debra.

They are so cute. I saw a video yesterday where a woman purchased an English ivy plant. She shaped a wire coat hanger into a circle then with the straightened handle, she simply stabbed that into the dirt and took the leggy parts of the plant and wrapped them around the circle. It was darling! I think I’m going to try it. Thank you Pamela.
Cindy
Your post has me smiling the big smile. So cute. I love all the topiary inspiration you shared. Iโm a huge fan and plan to share your post on DRA on Sunday.

Thank you Rachel. I greatly appreciate that. Cheers to all the topiaries big and small.
You are so sweet to include my post, Cindy, thank you so much. I really appreciate it! I adore topiaries and greenery as well and would have them all over the house if we had the extra space. They’re such an easy way to dress up a vignette or add a bit of cheer to a dark corner. Not to mention, they can be used throughout the which makes them very budget friendly. Especially, if you live in a not so seasonal climate like we do. Sending you big hugs and thank yous and will share this link on Friday sweet friend, CoCo

I love topiaries too and you have some darling examples. Of course the more green I can put in my home the better LOL!
